The Haitian folks really need our help.
Unfortunately, there will be many scammers out there who are trying to take advantage this natural disaster. I hope you take the proper precautions and do not fall victim to one of these low-life scammers. If you have not heard of the organization, do not respond!
But if you do decide to make a donation, and I hope you do, make sure you donate to a well-known charitable organization. Your chosen organization should already have a support apparatus (feet and equipment there) in place. A few that come to mind are the ubiquitous American Red Cross, CARE, UNICEF, Doctors without Borders, Save the Children, Salvation Army, etc.
Go directly to the charitable entity’s website. Don’t follow links in spam-type emails…they could be a redirect to a scam/phishing site.
And lastly, do not forget to read their FAQs to see how your hard-earned money is divvy up – some charitable organizations have really high “administrative costs.” Make sure most of your donation gets to those who really need it.
