WALLSTREET MEETS BEAUTY QUEEN VIA CRAIGSLIST

One of my co-workers emailed this post to me. It is a classic of craigslist.org’s “best of” category. I assume the author of the post could have probably gotten a job writing funnies because her post was hilarious. But I presume she was trying to avoid the working bit.

Here’s the craigslist post:

What am I doing wrong?

Okay, I’m tired of beating around the bush. I’m a beautiful (spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I’m articulate and classy. I’m not from New York. I’m looking to get married to a guy who makes at least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind that a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I don’t think I’m overreaching at all.

Are there any guys who make 500K or more on this board? Any wives? Could you send me some tips? I dated a business man who makes average around 200 – 250. But that’s where I seem to hit a roadblock. 250,000 won’t get me to central park west. I know a woman in my yoga class who was married to an investment banker and lives in Tribeca, and she’s not as pretty as I am, nor is she a great genius. So what is she doing right? How do I get to her level?

Here are my questions specifically:

- Where do you single rich men hang out? Give me specifics- bars, restaurants, gyms

-What are you looking for in a mate? Be honest guys, you won’t hurt my feelings

-Is there an age range I should be targeting (I’m 25)?

- Why are some of the women living lavish lifestyles on the upper east side so plain? I’ve seen really ‘plain jane’ boring types who have nothing to offer married to incredibly wealthy guys. I’ve seen drop dead gorgeous girls in singles bars in the east village. What’s the story there?

- Jobs I should look out for? Everyone knows – lawyer, investment banker, doctor. How much do those guys really make? And where do they hang out? Where do the hedge fund guys hang out?

- How you decide marriage vs. just a girlfriend? I am looking for MARRIAGE ONLY

Please hold your insults – I’m putting myself out there in an honest way. Most beautiful women are superficial; at least I’m being up front about it. I wouldn’t be searching for these kind of guys if I wasn’t able to match them – in looks, culture, sophistication, and keeping a nice home and hearth.

Here is the response to her post:

Dear Pers-431649184:

I read your posting with great interest and have thought meaningfully about your dilemma. I offer the following analysis of your predicament. Firstly, I’m not wasting your time, I qualify as a guy who fits your bill; that is I make more than $500K per year. That said here’s how I see it.

Your offer, from the prospective of a guy like me, is plain and simple a crappy business deal. Here’s why. Cutting through all the B.S., what you suggest is a simple trade: you bring your looks to the party and I bring my money. Fine, simple. But here’s the rub, your looks will fade and my money will likely continue into perpetuity…in fact, it is very likely that my income increases but it is an absolute certainty that you won’t be getting any more beautiful!

So, in economic terms you are a depreciating asset and I am an earning asset. Not only are you a depreciating asset, your depreciation accelerates! Let me explain, you’re 25 now and will likely stay pretty hot for the next 5 years, but less so each year. Then the fade begins in earnest. By 35 stick a fork in you!

So in Wall Street terms, we would call you a trading position, not a buy and hold…hence the rub…marriage. It doesn’t make good business sense to “buy you” (which is what you’re asking) so I’d rather lease. In case you think I’m being cruel, I would say the following. If my money were to go away, so would you, so when your beauty fades I need an out. It’s as simple as that. So a deal that makes sense is dating, not marriage.

Separately, I was taught early in my career about efficient markets. So, I wonder why a girl as “articulate, classy and spectacularly beautiful” as you has been unable to find your sugar daddy. I find it hard to believe that if you are as gorgeous as you say you are that the $500K hasn’t found you, if not only for a tryout.

By the way, you could always find a way to make your own money and then we wouldn’t need to have this difficult conversation.

With all that said, I must say you’re going about it the right way. Classic “pump and dump.” I hope this is helpful, and if you want to enter into some sort of lease, let me know.

POST YOUR LEGITIMATE CLASSIFIED AD ON FREEADLISTS.COM

After responding to some comments on another one of my blogs, I started thinking about offering FREE Featured Ads (homepage marquee) to anyone who links back to FreeAdLists.com on their website or blog (preferable homepage). Your classified ad will be seen on the marquee for 7 days. If I receive numerous requests, I will do the features in batches. Don’t ask me to feature obvious spam/scam ads, such as stuffing envelopes, copy/pasting ads, typing at home, making money online, get rich scams, pets, pharmacy, pyramid, porn/adult, or any other shady ad.

Here is what I am proposing:
1. Post your LEGITIMATE classified ad on FreeAdLists
2. Post a comment to the blog as to where the ad is located on FreeAdLists.com and where the linkback is located (your blog/website – prefer homepage).
3. Your classified ad will be seen in the marquee for 7 days.

7 TIPS REGARDING EARN CASH FOR PAID SURVEYS

I have seen several paid survey ads on this classified ads site asking for payment. Not!

Is there such a thing as a marketing company paying you for your opinion? Sure there are survey companies out there doing that but they are like gold nuggets – very scare. In fact, most “online surveys” are scams.

Why do legitimate paid surveys exist in the first place? They exist because large companies are always trying to ascertain what you think of their product or service. These product surveys can vary from autos, education, magazines, phones, perfumes, shipping, cable/telephone, gadgets, web services, apparel, stocks, entertainment, financial, and the laundry list continues. This is an important part of a company’s marketing strategy.

Here are a few tips to consider before joining a survey company.

1. If the survey company is asking you to pay a membership, you can almost be 100% certain it is a scam. The survey company should be paying you (monetarily or gifts), not the other way around.

2. If the company is asking you to pay for paid surveys list, you can pretty much surmise the only one making money on this effort is the operator of the list. Needless to say, they are either a middleman or low-life scammer.

3. If they are asking for credit card information, that should be an immediate RED flag. Don’t give out your credit card information to anyone unless you truly trust the source. Next thing you know, you will probably see some unauthorized charges on the next billing cycle.

4. Remember that legitimate survey companies are using your feedback to make important business decisions relating to demographics, marketing, product development, and advertising. For example, when you try/test a product sample or a service in a store, the survey marketing company or the producer is gaining valuable research information.

5. If you do find a legitimate survey company, make sure the payout level is fairly low. See if the company pays out in the first place and was it in a timely manner. I imagine it would take a lot of surveys to attain a $50 or $100 payout.

6. Be extremely wary of claims of making outrageous amounts of money with surveys. The operators are just trying to bait you into buying their programs. Making money on the Internet is not an easy endeavor. It is like anything else worthwhile in life; you really have to work hard at it.

7. Remember the old US postal axiom: “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” Now that sounds like good advice. Caveat emptor!

MY TOP 20 CLASSIFIED ADS WEBSITES

Here are my top twenty classified ads websites.

Craigslist dominates the classifieds space on the Internet and forecasted to make an estimated $80 million this year. A few years ago, they were making a lot less, but I guess they decided there was just too much money being left on the table. eBay owns a 25% stake in craigslist.

Ebay-owned Kijiji is much larger than I expected.

KIDNEY DONATION KIDNEY FOR FREE! WHAT?

Frankly speaking, the content of this classified ad post shocked me. The poster was offering a kidney in exchange for work. Luckily for us, the poster never activated thisfree classifieds ad. I know times can get tough but this seems a bit overdone. Wow. For future reference, FreeAdLists is a free ads exchange for cars, homes, jobs, office, personals, pets, etc — no human organs please!

On the other hand, it might be a desperate phishing attempt.

Here is the post.

Kidney Donation Kidney for FREE!
Kidney for Exchange

I will donate a kidney in exchange for work. This in not a commercial exchange, people who are going to criticize and mock me, let me tell them that i am offering my kidney!, and am looking for work! and any money that i shall get will be in exchange for my work. This is just one good deed in exchange for another. When it comes to donating a kidney, all you people become critics and blame people who sell their kidneys but when it comes to my children’s education or their well being, i cannot even offer my kidney for free??! It’s not as if I’m hitting the jackpot here, all i want is to be able to provide a decent life, health and education to my children through honest, hard work. All I’m asking for is a chance. And if i don’t prove myself, I’ll give my other kidney too! What that means that I’m sure there will be no need for this because i have faith in myself. I can be contacted on xxxxxxxx@Gmail.Com Thank you.

P.S. I am sorry if it sounds as if i am trying to take advantage of somebody else’s bad situation. i also have a bad situation. it’s a life or death situation for me. nobody can make this decision out of the blue, it’s not as if donation blood. it’s a body organ. i would even like to donate it without any conditions attached, but what’s wrong in asking for a chance for work? I’m not begging for money, just want to work. that’s all.

EDGEIO.COM CLOSES ITS DOORS

TechCrunch reported that Edgeio.com is closing their doors. Edgeio was a service that collected and organized classified ads listings that were published on other RSS enabled web sites or directly onto Edgeio.

I used Edgeio.com for FreeAdLists.com. At first, I quickly navigated away from it because I didn’t quite get it. But later, I played around with it and was able to use a couple of its tools, such as creating listings and attempting to submit XML listings.

I focused mainly on Home Sales and Apartment Rental classified ads because the bulk of my free classified ads are concentrated in those areas. However, I was constantly prompted with metadata errors because Edgeio didn’t like my XML format. It was regimented on a specific format, which was costly in terms of time and effort for me. I’m operating off a shoestring budget…my own “VC funds” and whatever revenue I’ve earned via “Featured Classified Ads” and Google Adsense. Anyways, I validated my feeds against feedvalidator.org, but edgeio.com still complained about them, so I ended up using the service for a singly purpose: to advertise “Feature Classified Ads,” not exactly what Edgeio had in mind. Needless to say, I was frustrated in using their service but I kept trying. Why? I thought it would be a valuable resource for my posters.

Frankly speaking, I wished it would have worked out because I think their metadata aggregation idea was novel and I still think it is… I’m hoping Keith TeareEdgeio’s CEO/Co-Founder, will post something on his blog and provide a few insights/lessons learned as to why the doors are being closed.

I wonder how oodle.com is doing.

Free Classifieds Feeds Wanted

I’m currently ingesting ad feeds for several free classifieds interests. I have another client in the queue who is interested in having his pawnshop classified ads ingested.

I would be interested in ingesting additional free classified ads feeds.

However, I need to ensure they have unique titles and fairly small descriptions. I had a few prospects that had thousands of classified ads, but all had similar titles – not useful for SEO purposes.

Here’s what I need:

What format (CSV, tab, xml, etc) is your ad feeds in? Please send me a sample. I can write a PHP parser for just about any format. What’s the name of your ad company/agency?

Please understand I don’t want to get involved in any scams. I’m definitely not interested in MLM/pyramids schemes, global postings, affiliates, ambiguous money making schemes, 419 scams, or gambling/pharmaceutical type ads. Don’t bother me with those types of promotions/ads because these illegal/questionable activities are a waste of time and effort.

By the way, there’s no charge for this free classifieds service.

ADDED A FRAUD ALERT SECTION

I just added a fraud alert link resource section to this blog, and I will add more links to this section as time goes on. I am hoping readers will click on these links and make themselves aware of these scams. It is hard to fathom there are people out there who think perfect strangers will do “something nice” for them for absolutely no reason. They won’t. These low-life scammers are always looking for hapless victims, please don’t become one. Believe me, there are no free lunches out there.

Beware of messages that mention pets, sweepstakes, jobs, lotteries, money-making offers, work-at-home opportunities, pyramid/Ponzi schemes, Nigerian 419 scams, envelope stuffing, drugs/pills, some affiliate farms, and etc.

Remember the old US postal axiom: “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”
